Born and educated in New Zealand, Ann Palmer spent most of her working life in London, teaching and doing literary research. Then came eleven years in St Petersburg, working on a replica ship-building project. Life in Russia was the stimulus for a lot of her writing. So was life in Portugal, for the next ten years. Now she’s back in New Zealand, it seems like a fourth foreign culture.
