Ngā mihi nui to everyone who came to listen, read and enjoy short short fiction on the shortest day all across Aotearoa! We celebrated in 7 city centres, with special guests, youth and adult readers and of course awards. Many thanks again to all who made this year’s NFFD celebration a big success! Find all NFFD longlisted stories on the June 2025 story page.
Guest readers included contributors from recent anthologies, especially Te Moana o Reo and Poto! Short! Past NFFD winners were with us – including Anita Arlov, Vera Dong and Margaret Moores in Auckland, and Susan Wardell in Dunedin. It was a big year in Auckland this year, with first place going to Claris Harvey and second place going to Gretchen Carroll, and in Northland, with Sue Barker placing third in Micro Madness and winning the Northland Regional Prize in the national competition.
Congratulations to all, and heartfelt thanks to the spaces that host and support NFFD – old friends and new!
